Replanting

It took forever to see what everyone else got so clearly I know nothing in this world I thought I’d never be free, You know I thought it would overwhelm me Underneath and all uphurled But now I’m singing out with a pack of strings and a southbound rhythm What happened nobody knows, the which and why remain resounding Question marks upon my soul Looking forward we go, down in the thick of a million milestones Tumbling down the hill they roll Now, I’m calling you, from the other side See, I made it through, I’m still alive. How can a paddy be sown without the cattle and plow to turn the Field upside upon itself? Can the seedlings be grown but by upheaval and then replanting promises of future wealth?
2.
I stuffed my fears into the overhead bin Without a doubt, no I wouldn’t let them in Cuz I am getting on this train I am moving on again Pull the lever back and let the trip begin I’m far away from the green and auburn fields I’ve dodged the lies and blocked the fiery darts he wields And now I’m sitting on this train The future’s on the tracks again I’ve reclined the seat back, let the trip begin Who could dare say if I’ll be home in time for bed Cuz no one knows just when the yellow turns to red If all the magnetism fails The iron steel betrayed as tin I’m never looking back so let trip begin Feels like all I’ll ever know I fear it’s all I’ll ever know Seems like all I’ve ever known

That girl’s not Times New Roman She will not fit in the margin line She’ll not be kept in the moment Heaven has a storyline They want her college ruled, they want her put in place But she will not be double sided, she will not be single spaced Now she’s going out to run among the saints In the book of history you’ll find she’s written out a page All of the lines are open To transition to a new paragraph And when the prose to turns to poetry to song and back again We’ll join the angels, we’ll throw our heads back and laugh
4.
Real Eyes 04:35
So many times when I look at something I’m looking through it and seeing something more A back door to the portal of the true Is it a part of the microcosm? What’s the story from the back part of the room, behind the blue? If you can’t see it, then I’m gonna tell you how Put real eyes on the things you think are beautiful Put real eyes on the ones you know are wonderful Every man was once a boy in flip flops Every woman had her dreams upon a time Revolving doors that we’ve been through So how is it that the mountain climber Upon the summit is convinced now that he’s small, beneath the blue? And you'll see him there, just like the moon When the shadowed path for a moment comes to view The double door, the spider's web Take a deep, deep breath and let it get out of your head
5.
Get Together 03:18
Oh bring me a boat and I will ride down the Mississippi River Southern Louisiana in Lafayette I’ve got a long lost sister It’s been far too long since we’ve seen each other Far away I moved now it’s time we get together Buy, buy me a bus ticket to Woodstock, Georgia to see my sister She’s a piano teacher and I heard she’s become a theatre director We called it Gethsemane Garden Under the one safety street lamp Brave enough to tell the story you wish you didn’t have Saw oneself in two, wove a cord of three strands Years and continents, turn of events and a change of plans We’re still friends Fly, fly to the East and you’ll find me in a concrete tower Speaking words you don’t know but I, I still sing and play guitar It’s been far too long since we’ve seen each other Far away I moved now it’s time we get together It’s been far too long since we’ve seen each other Can we set a date for this year? I’ll check my calendar It’s been far too long since we’ve seen each other Far away I moved now it’s time we get together
6.
Lord, I can smell your goodness in the greenery I’ve gotta get back that purity I’ve lost Cuz I’ve been disgusted with the fruit of industry I’ve got to get out of this world’s black exhaust I took the long road all the way around Bypassed the shopping mall and all the weekend crowds Where the roads are wide and a man can hear the sound of change And the steady sense of not having a home It grieves me to imagine what marvels of machinery Will fill this leveled mountain space when its done And the cool wind brings brings a sadness at the change in me That turns my glance to the ever fixed orange setting sun When you hit the highway, when you run out of juice When the blue sheet metal fences forces you to choose To take a turn, there it will be, a sight familiar, and a nearness suddenly You’d like to ride a while longer, but home’s calling yonder So running, you’re running, running, running You run run run run run...

Jesus Christ, you banished darkness, Dayspring With the coming of your dawn you awakened us to sing All the reasons that I have to sing are you You’re the source of all the light and joy streaming forth to song I will sing the song that you placed in my heart With the voice you gave to me And the breath you breathed in my lungs Let my voice resound with the whole world in bringing you a song Jesus the Son, Holy Ghost, Father God Singing thrilling melodies over all your rescued ones And I can hear you singing gladly over me It’s the purity of Three In One, in perfect harmony I will sing the song that you placed in my heart With the voice you gave to me And the breath you breathed in my lungs Let my voice resound with the whole world in bringing you a song I love to sing your song, I love to sing your song I love to sing the song that you sang first Your love for me is stronger than death; you conquered all I love you because you loved me first Jesus King of Kings, by your blood ransomed for your own A people falling down in worship before the highest throne Singing, “Holy, Holy is Almighty God; Who was and is and is to come in glory” Forevermore I’ll sing the song that you placed in my heart With the voice you gave to me And the breath you breathed in my lungs Let my voice resound with the whole world in bringing Let my voice resound with the whole world in bringing you a song I love to sing your song, I love to sing your song I love to sing the song that you sang first Your love for me is stronger than death; you conquered all I love you because you loved me first

Coffee Break 02:39
Mondays are always like this Coming in, you cannot fight this Feeling there is something wonderful and overwhelming to do For one thing, the weekend’s over And I’ve stumbled upon the two-leaf clover Of fear and excitement, wondering if I’ve got what what it takes Before I go any further along... I’m gonna start this day with a coffee break Catching up with what the guys are doing before getting down to the grind I’m gonna start this day with a coffee break Checking out to let the brain start brewing back into a frame of mind Every strength that I’ve applied Is a step toward becoming qualified For the work I’m busy doing, ruining the amateur inside For one thing, I’ve learned to listen And apply the lessons that I’ve been given In the school of knocks and failures, they all root for me today Before I go any further along... I’m gonna start this day with a coffee break Catching up with what the guys are doing before getting down to the grind I’m gonna start this day with a coffee break Checking out to let the brain start brewing back into a frame of mind Whatever terror waits in the inbox Whatever lion comes out of the gate I’ll meet with with grace and courage I won’t back down from my fate Because God himself has placed me here To glorify his name And what’s a man, a job, a place in time, when the arrow’s taken aim?

My body’s broken I feel unprepared to die Afraid I’ll never get a real chance, a real chance at a real life Caught between a past that’s got its guilty grip on me And a future that welcomes open arms, open arms to more misery When he comes for me he’ll bear all my grief And carry me When he comes for me he’ll touch my disease And heal my broken body When he comes for me he’s gonna wipe my past and my future clean It’s not a tragedy He will never break his vow to me See regrets see shame, see me break like a jar of clay See my forever forgiven soul, treasure that death can’t take away All my dreams realized when it’s finally seen what I really am I know that I’m alive in the truest way, in the only way that counts Who have I in heaven but you? And on earth there’s nothing that I want here besides you My flesh and my heart failed You’re my strength my portion Now watch me rise up out of the ground I’m alive! Watch me rise up out of the ground I’m alive!

Farewell 05:19
Wish I could forget how many times I’ve said goodbye If it’s not you, then it’s me who’s moving on this time So long, my friend, just remember When you’re up on the mountain There’s bound to be some mist on your window shield When you ride on the ridges There’s going to be some mud in your wheels Who knows how long before our paths will cross again Who knows how long before we’ll laugh again, laugh again When you broke the news I couldn’t think of anything to say And now I’m the dirty dog who’s packing my stuff and moving far away So long, my friend, I hope you know that
12.
Don’t look at me that way from your ivory tower I’ve had a long, hard day working after hours I should have known I wouldn’t get too far this way I should have seen, seen it coming farther away I’m just a blue collar man wearing a white button-down shirt Yes, I do clean up pretty good, work the angles and exert The kind of freestyling, free-flying spirit it takes To make a living in this music city town Don’t talk to me that way I’ve got to work this side hustle I wish you’d quit the power play flexing all of your muscles I should have known I wouldn’t get too far this way I should have seen, seen it coming farther away Final chorus I’m just a blue collar man wearing a white button-down shirt Yes, I do clean up pretty good, I’ll check my mood and will convert The attitudes that would desert Roll my sleeves up in concert With the truth that’s so overt And though I stumble in the dirt I will come out of this unhurt Work the angles and exert The kind of freestyling, free-flying spirit it takes To make a living in this music city town To make a living in this music city town I’ll make a living in this music city town
13.
It was a calculated risk on a thin plane of ice Ridiculously meticulous but the weather wasn’t nice Solid melts to slush, sincerity can’t take the heat There’s nothing under your feet When the ice broke under my feet and I fell through Thought I packed everything I needed in my sled Didn’t know I needed you and your acceptance After kinship cracked apart It’s a piece of my story I won’t run from it now Christmas in the wilderness I’ll make it on my own Idyllic plans but conditions bad I was forced to course for home Hitchhike the frozen highway, fate will drive us face to face Pick me up in Moose Lake
14.
Into Flame 06:05
True, I should have known The kickbacks disappear when you’re alone Do you think I’ve grown? Cuz I can’t see a sprout of what I’ve sown (You) You hear all the groanings of a heart that is bowed to the ground (Here) here are the songs of a heart that will wait to hear your sound And if there be even a little heat in this charcoal pit Would you blow it into flame? Dawn, at half past five The sun has not appeared but you’re revived Has the bus arrived? Cuz standing in the cold I feel alive Fear isn’t nothing but the tiptoe approaching the throne Dearly beloved singing out for the joy that they’ve known The arrows come a-raining down, The trackers on the trail have found The scent of incense left behind by a man who’s newly dressed The favor of the Lord abounds, Invisible brigade surrounds And shields the straight-path runner with an alloy truly blessed He’s my shield, He’s my song, He’s my Father who’s been with me all along

Brown study is an antiquated word for reverie, meditation, musings -- being lost in a daydream.

What if the stories of those visions were told?

Brownstory was conceived before Mainframe. Rachel was writing acoustic Psalm-inspired songs, Noah was writing on mandolin, and Drew had revived his violin. We played our unplugged daydream songs in a coffeeshop or two, in the urban metropolis of East Asia which was our home.

Then the four of us made a bold move: forsaking the city smog, we planted our young families in a remote, green, and beautiful mountainous village. Agrarian ways–cyclical, rhythmic, laborious, miraculous, unpredictable but hopeful, communal–became a lived metaphor for our life in Jesus.

Devastatingly, our dreams were uprooted before they bloomed, and we lost our homes, friends, plans, and parts of our identity and calling.

Now we are replanting.
